Meet the Kalanchoe Plant
The Kalanchoe is a gorgeous evergreen succulent that produces vibrantly colored flowers–for up to six months out of the year. (What?! A blooming-houseplant lover’s dream!) Originally found thriving on the plateaus of Mt. Tsaratanana in Madagascar, the Flaming Katy grows in a round, bushy shape with waxy green leaves and stalks that hold clusters of beautifully blooming flowers.
They originally hit the market as gift plants. Many find that when they aren’t in bloom, their leaves are quite boring. (Personally, I love their pretty, scalloped leaves!) For many, though, once their pretty blooms go by, out the entire plant goes. This is unfortunate, as they bloom over and over and over again, bringing back the initial beauty that drew one to the plant.
Overall, the Kalanchoe is easy to care for, and their requirements are pretty basic–which makes this plant perfect for houseplant lovers of all levels.
