When you first bring a houseplant home, unless you have another of the same kind, learning how to care for your plant is important. We all want our houseplants to grow and do well. From the amount of sunlight the plant needs to the kind of fertilizer that works best, having a care sheet to refer to is a helpful way to get yourself into the habit of caring for your new plant.
Whenever I bring home a new kind of plant, I do a little research on it, which is how I began developing these care sheets. Originally, they were called “Plant Profiles” and were instead a blog post detailing the origin of the plant, it’s care, and more. However, I find the format of my care sheets to be more helpful, as well as handy. Instead of sifting through text to find the information you’re looking for, it’s all labeled and included right here.
How do I choose which plants to make care sheets for? I’ve been a plant mom to all of these plants at one time or another during my houseplant journey. Do I still have them all? No. We win some, and we lose some, but overall, we learn. Those that I haven’t had success with, I’ve gone back to edit and include tips for what went wrong. Don’t ever be ashamed of a plant dying in your care. Metaphorically speaking, you’ll find your people. There’s a houseplant out there for everyone, and for everyone, it’s different.
If you have a suggestion for a care sheet you would like to see, leave it in the comments below. Otherwise, I wish you and your new plant nothing but luck and lots of growth.
